"What the heck is a Super Mario Bros. Wonder Nuzlocke and how does it work?"

The Super Mario Bros. Wonder Nuzlocke, inspired by the Pokémon Nuzlocke, is a set of rules to make the game harder.

Rules

  1. You have to use ALL characters in order from Mario to Nabbit.
  2. If you die, the character you were playing as is considered dead, and you can't play as it anymore.
  3. You can only play each course once. That means if you skip a Wonder Flower or a secret exit, you can't go back. The only course you can replay is Operation Poplin Rescue, to get to the Special World.
  4. Anytime you die, the level starts over, which means no checkpoints.
  5. If you lose every character, get a game over, or not have enough Wonder Seeds to move on, the game is over.
  6. You can't buy 1UPs or Wonder Seeds from Poplin Shops, but you can still buy badges and Standees.
  7. If you lose to a Wiggler Race, you lose the character you are playing as.

Increase difficulty

  • No badges, except during Badge Challenges.
  • Wonder Gauntlet must be cleared before entering Castle Bowser, which means if you miss the secret exit in Bulrush Express, the run is automatically over.
  • Your badges can only be picked using Prince's Choice, but if a badge is recommended, (e.g. Dolphin Kick recommended in Leaping Smackerel) don't use any badges.
  • Don't use Yoshis and Nabbit, which means if you lose Toadette, your game is over.
  • Special World courses must be completed in ONE ATTEMPT, otherwise, they are skipped.
  • Every course must be 100%'d, and if you miss a 10 Flower Coin, Wonder Seed, or golden flagpole, the game is over.
  • If you break your jump combo in Ninji Jump Party, you have to start over and your character is out.
  • No collecting power-ups except when you touch a checkpoint flag. For KO Arenas, you have the choice to either use them or not during your run.

Multiplayer Rules (Requires another system/copy of Super Mario Bros. Wonder)

Note: This is not online play

  1. Your partner picks the same character. (At the start, you are both Mario)
  2. If you or your partner dies, you are both dead and can't use the character anymore
  3. You and your partner need to go to the same exit. This means if someone goes to a secret exit, you have to go to that secret exit. This also counts for exits without Poplin Houses.
  4. You and your partner both need to touch the Wonder Flower, and if you skip the Wonder Seed, your partner skips the Wonder Seed.
  5. Both players need to play a Wiggler Race separately. If one of them lose, you both lose the character you're playing as

Online Rules

This would be technically an easy mode.

  • You can revive yourself touching a player or standee, but only once per level.
